Useful Info
Making the session fruitful.
Being at home, outdoor or in the studio, it is important to be well prepared and well informed about the best practices that will help make your photo session a Success !
You’ll find useful information for the different photo shooting categories below.
How it works
Newborn
A baby changes so much throughout their first year. It’s hard to truly express how quickly a newborn becomes a toddler until you’ve experienced it. It’s only then you realize how truly fleeting this precious time is. Preserve these precious moments through beautiful photographs that you will cherish for years to come.
When To Book
We recommend contacting us well in advance and booking the newborn portrait sessions a week after the due date, we will then re-schedule if necessary based on the actual arrival date of the baby so that your session takes place between 3-15 days after delivery. We recommend this time for you newborn session as a baby is extremely sleepy in their first few days of life and their sleep is very deep allowing them to easily be positioned.
How Long Is A Session?
We need to work around your newborn so allow for anywhere from 2-3 hours for your session. This will allowing plenty of time for various poses with a selection of beautiful props, and of course for feeding, changing and cuddling.
Who Can I Bring To A Session?
This session is all about your baby, parents and siblings are of course needed shall you want family pictures. We advise to avoid inviting more friends or family members as this tends to perturb the newborn and therefore the photo session.
How Should I Prepare For My Session?
Our private studio is a comfortable environment for you to nurse, feed or change your baby as necessary. That being said it is advised to feed the baby 1 hour before the photo session to ensure maximum sleeping time for the baby. Please bring any special items you’d like in the photos such as a special blanket or hat from grandparents etc.
Maternity
Whether you feel the pregnancy glow or not a professional can make you feel and look like you do. This is the time to preserve these moments through beautiful photographs that you will cherish for years to come.
When To Book
Your maternity session should ideally be booked between 28-34 weeks. This is a time where most women have a nice large bump but haven’t gotten so big that it’s uncomfortable to move.
Indoor Or Outdoor?
It’s up to you. Your session should reflect you and your personality. A phone consultation is included in every session so we can determine together the look and feel you want in your images.
How Long Is A Session?
A session can be anywhere from 30mins to an hour depending on how you’re feeling.
Who Can I Bring To A Session?
This session can be all about you if you like or you’re also welcome to bring your significant other and any other children you have. Please allow for up to 90 minutes for your session if there are 3 or more of you.
How Should I Prepare For My Session?
- If you plan on barring just your belly avoid tight fitting clothing and accessories like watches and bracelets at least two hours before your session so they don’t leave any visible marks on your skin.
- It’s a good idea to also make sure your nails are polished, whether you go for a manicure or keep them natural.
- Clothing should be fitted and accentuate the bust line and belly. Form fitting clothes with a little stretch will really compliment your figure. I can propose you different dresses and your welcome to bring in 2-3 outfits and we can decide together what works best.
Cake Smash
Should I Bring My Own Custom Cake?
We can definitely provide you the cake however, If your child has any allergies we recommend you bring in your own cake. Or if you’d like something more elaborate please let us know you will bring in your own cake.
When To Schedule?
Anytime a few weeks before or after your child’s first birthday is perfect. We recommend doing a cake smash about a month before your child’s 1st birthday if you want to use these images at their birthday party. The most popular session ages are 1st and 2nd birthdays.
Is There Anything I Should Bring With Me?
Please bring a change of clothes for everyone, as the frosting can quite literally get everywhere. A few of your child’s favorite toys may also be a good idea too for comforting and distracting them at the beginning of the session.
What Should I Wear?
It’s up to you and can be as casual or dressy as you like. Most people choose to bring along a couple of outfits, usually one for the ‘pre-cake’ portraits and the other for the “Cake Smash” itself. I love bare bellies on little ones for the “cake smash” teamed with tutus, a onesie or jeans. Also feel free to dress and accessorize your child however you please.
Also please remember that their clothing will end up covered in frosting so don’t dress them in something that you would be upset if it got ruined.
Did you know we start our Complete cake smash with a few family portraits?
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to call or email us and we will be happy to help you in any way to make sure that your child’s “Cake Smash” photos are something that you’ll cherish forever.
